The current war in Iran, begun by US Trump and Israeli Netanyahu, reminds me of President Pierce’s ploy during the Resolute story. Pierce had no policies at home that the country could get behind. Granted, the domestic situation he faced was much worse than that of today. The USA was only a few years away fromaaq1 Civil War, which would tear the country asunder. The country looked toward their president for the leadership he was incapable of providing.
The policies President Pierce had were failing the country, and his popularity was tanking. What could he do? Taking his cue from leaders before him, just like Trump is doing now, he started stoking war fever. The desired effects of starting a foreign war, then as now, were to unify the divided country, and raise the president’s approval ratings. Sometimes this works. But it didn’t work for President Pierce, and, so far it isn’t working for Trump. It seems he has indeed unified a large swathe of Americans, but they are not supporting this war. Rather, they are against it. STRIKE ONE. And Trump’s approval ratings keep sinking. STRIKE TWO. Without support at home, perhaps Trump had hoped to raise support from key allies. However, world leaders are responding to the destruction Trump & Netanyahu are bringing to their economies and access to the fossil fuels (we are still way too dependant on). STRIKE THREE. Not only are these supplies being destroyed the process of destroying them is destroying the environment! In American Baseball there is no STRIKE FOUR. You are OUT after your 3rd strike.
Americans have the CONSTITUTION, and the CONSTITUTION provides us with a mechanism we can use to take the whole corrupt Trump Administration OUT.
